- CONNECTION SESSION -

- HOW DOES IT WORK? -

Thank you SO much for your interest in my work. I love making great images for rad people!

Although I don't watch the clock, my Connection Sessions usually last around 1.5 hours and because of my busy wedding season, are held Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursdays, and ideally in the evening. The best time of day to start them, is 2 hours before sunset. In the Winter my schedule and timing is much more flexible as the sun sets around 4:30 and most of the day is grey anyway, we can schedule them much more loosely. Snow fall shoot anyone?!

I schedule my Connection Sessions at various locations within 30 minutes of New Paltz, NY. I am always down to travel to a farther location that means something to you and would be happy to email you an estimated price for travel beyond 30 miles. On the other end, I have countless rad locations near by, some of which I am waiting for the right couple to take!

If you have a busy work schedule, you may want to schedule your session in the summer months, when the days are longer and the sun sets around 8:30-9:00.

Scheduling a date for your Connection Session will vary depending on what you would like to use the photos for. Save The Date’s are pre-invitations that are sent out at least 6 months before the wedding. Since the average time to edit Connections is 2-3 weeks, I recommend scheduling your session at least seven months out from your wedding date for Save The Date purposes.

For Couples Sessions, I am usually booked out 4-6 weeks in advance so getting a date locked down asap is the way to go.

- WHAT TO EXPECT -

These sessions are really just about celebrating your love and life together.  It’s a chance to capture moments that show who you are, embrace your individuality, showcase creativity and illustrate the love you share.

My sessions are laid back and free flowing, not as awkward as you think and a lot of fun. The result is a huge variety of images to share with family and friends. Aside from having photos of the two of you this session is when we really get to know each other. You two, and us two- me and the camera. You’ll quickly get a feel for how I use subtle direction to capture your real emotions, the you that you are when no one else is around. I give the gift of sweet moments for you to live inside of, allowing your love to shine through, your way.

We will meet up, take a walk or a hike, and take pictures along the way, chatting, adventuring, connecting. Once I start shooting, I'll be directing you and helping you out with some guidance about what to do. It's going to be SUPER awkward (just kidding). If you're nervous, no need to worry. I'm not expecting you to show up and model for me, I'll totally help you out without it being posey and cheesy. Nothing you see here is posed, just some gentle guidance.

Make sure you wear shoes that you can walk around in even if you change in and out of them as we move along. I am really fond of tall grass and fields,  wildflowers, forests, and all of the overgrown stuff, which sometimes can mean little bits of poison ivy, so just think about that when you get dressed. If your legs and feet are totally exposed, it's no big deal, I will just adjust where I take you.  The main thing is to be comfortable- if you're not, it will show. I am all about comfort! When you're comfortable, you're confident. When you're confident, you're beautiful!

- LOCATION -

Let me start by saying that we can shoot anywhere and I am often influenced by the environment in which I am shooting. It’s usually a good idea to choose a unique location that’s reflective of you both.  Think about things that inspire you: consider places that have sentimental meaning for you or that’s fun or different about your hobbies, career or passions. Make it as personal as you can. The best locations are a mix of quirky and obscure.

You can also take a different route and get out into nature. I have what I call my Victory Drive which is a five mile loop in my area where we simply chase the light. Me in my car, you in yours, stopping at many of the hundreds of places where the light hits just right.

Get together and brainstorm. If your style is more modern and minimal you may want to pick a city block with modern storefronts, a building or restaurant with flare, an art museum or a parking garage with geometric architecture, or an industrial setting, just as some examples.

If you’re both foodies, a colorful outdoor market or a picnic may be an option. If you’re both constantly found with your nose buried in books, a bookstore, library or study might be right for you.

Think about the colors and style of any potential locations and how you can compliment them with your outfits. If it helps, keep in mind that sometimes the best locations for a photo shoot are in the most unusual places. These are just a few ideas to help you get started choosing a location. Our shoot doesn’t have to be deep and conceptual, but it helps if you love where we are.

I am always up for scouting new and unique locations for you. On the same note, if you can’t think of anything or just want to leave it up to me, I would be happy to come up with something for you. Sometimes the best location is no location. Someplace open to every possibility.

- WHAT TO WEAR -

Like the location, your outfits should be a reflection of you.  I am totally flexible with whatever you’d like to wear. This is your session and I recommend that you be comfortable. If comfortable to you means dressed up, then go buy that dress from Anthropologie that you’ve been eying and bring some killer shoes too! If comfortable to you is your favorite, worn in shirt and pants with a pair of flats, then by all means, wear it.

For your session I recommend no more than two outfits in order to maximize our time together but one is great too. If you want to bring more it’s totally fine, but unfortunately, it may have an impact on the amount of time we’ll have to actually make photographs.

Primary colors play a big part in our photography. A touch of red, yellow or blue can make anything pop and help you stand out from the background. Adding a pair of red or yellow shoes,  a bright blue shirt or bowtie or a colorful belt will transform your outfits. The goal is to not blend in with the background.

Avoid baggy button down shirts and shirts with logos. Be sure to bring a pair of comfortable shoes to change in and out of because we will probably do a bit of walking. Also, try to avoid any clothing that may show visible straps, tags or semi-transparent clothing that could reveal undergarments.

During the session, plan on only carrying the bare minimum. If you can, leave purses, bags, cell phones, etc. in your car or we can carry them for you.

Remember, confidence is everything in photographs. What you choose to wear should be something you feel comfortable in, that compliments your physical features, your individuality, something you can move around in and something that makes you feel amazing! Confidence is beautiful.
