Amanda and Dan got married on September 23 at The Garrison in Garrison, NY. They have been together for over ten years, and have built an amazing network of families and friends that we are honored to be a part of. Before the wedding, Amanda found out that she had cancer and Dan called us right away to schedule their connection session. She wanted to have their session immediately because one week later she was having surgery. And so we all went out in the bitter cold of February and took some of my favorite pictures ever. We laughed. We learned about each other. We told stories. We took damn good pictures. They are both such awesome and amazing people.
On the day of their wedding, I was with Amanda as she was getting ready. The ladies enjoyed the obligatory wedding morning mimosas while they had their hair and makeup done. The light streamed in from the windows for Amanda’s stunning bridal portraits. Her dress was absolutely exquisite, the lace details were really delicate and looked awesome when she put it on. She and Dan had a first look and it was so sweet and tender. The way that they connect so naturally and easily is something that only happens when a couple has been together for as long as and been through as much as they have. The sky was cloudless and stretched out in that perfect blue that only happens for a short time at the end of September, as summer gives way to fall. We found some shaded places to get just the right balance of light and just let Amanda and Dan shine on their own.
The ceremony was outside at the Garrison. They have just the most spectacular view of the Hudson and the Catskills in the distance as the sun started to set. Amanda and Dan gave their vows and it was just beautiful. There was so much love. After the ceremony, we were lucky enough to have the most beautiful sunset. The way the sun lit up the whole sky in those rich golden colors was simply magical. I grabbed Amanda and Dan and got them out in that light. After we took a few more amazing pictures, we made our way inside to the party.
And don’t misunderstand, when I say party, I mean party. This group knew how to celebrate. The music by Young Love and the Thrills had everyone out on the dance floor. It was a ton of fun for everyone as the whole crowd danced and sang along. It was an upbeat day; full of the love and laughter you hope for on a wedding day.
Amanda and Dan, thank you for sharing your day with us. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us. There’s something so amazing about a love that endures and shines even when there are obstacles. I admire your strength and your grace and wish you both many years of love and laughter.
