Hudson Valley Outdoor Wedding - Oak Hill Estate
Fall Foliage. Hudson River Views. Romantic couple.
Romantic Hudson Valley outdoor wedding at Oak Hill Estate in Hudson NY
Paige and Josh got married in the Fall at the lovely Oak Hill Estate and Barn, which is an old Livingston Estate in Hudson, NY. They had their ceremony on the large lawn overlooking the Hudson River, which was great having everything all in one venue. They chose Oak Hill Estate because of the river views and the big barn and they just immediately fell in love with it. I love shooting weddings at Oak Hill because the grounds are just wonderful and the light is so pretty.
The venue is a spectacular Hudson Valley NY barn wedding venue and is very selective about the amount of weddings they allow every year which keeps the grounds pristine and lush. This early October wedding has just the right amount amount of everything- green leaves and colored leaves, sun and wind, warm days and chilly nights. The bride was not only elegant and gorgeous but as sweet as could be and totally down to earth. The Groom and his friends kept me laughing all day.
The wedding itself was short and sweet on top of a hill overlooking The Hudson River. During the ceremony they had a beautiful reading – it was so personal. The outdoor ceremony with river views can't be beaten and is a must in the early Autumn in the Hudson Valley when all the foliage is turning. Even though they swore to me that they would be awkward, this couple certainly fit the bill of organic, romantic and non-cheesy and I wish I could document their wedding every weekend!
The reception was in the tall timber framed barn, typical to our amazing Upstate NY Barn weddings venues. They walked around the woods with me for photos in the afternoon, and served a delicious family dinner in the evening by Simply Gourmet in Poughkeepsie. Mike and his team are so wonderful and I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for catering that cares.
They decorated the venue with apples and wildflowers as it was a fall wedding. There were bistro lights over the dance which added to the warm feeling inside the beautiful timber framed barn. The first dance was a romantic slow dance, and they finished off the evening with a very unique showing of dance moves by their friends. More on that later!
The most memorable part of the day was during our portrait session, because it was so romantic and personal. I always try my best to meet my couples before their wedding day, but I didn’t get the chance to meet Paige and Josh until the day of their wedding. Sometimes, it takes a while for couples to warm up to my camera. In fact, these two told me how awkward they were going to be- they swore up and down that they would be our most awkward couple. Yeah, I know!! They couldn't have been more wrong. I absolutely loved creating such diverse Hudson New York wedding pictures for them. They were fun and so so sweet to each other. They were romantic and their feelings and gestures were totally organic. I just kept finding the light and they just kept being amazing and in love. They also had jump rope dance off during the party – it was hilarious!
Paige and Josh met in college and have been together for 5 years. They got in touch with me almost 2 years before their wedding and their inquiry was really touching. They said they wanted a relaxed photographer, and I thought it was awesome that they really connected with my work.
Paige and Josh say that if you’re planning your wedding, the biggest piece of advice they could give you is leave yourself plenty of time.
Paige and Josh’s wedding was so much fun and just the happiest occasion. Here’s their stunning wedding!
