The Dutchess: A Hidden Gem for your Outdoor Wedding

A Secret Experience in the Hudson Valley, NY

I am so excited to share Ben and Ivy’s wedding at The Dutchess, a hidden gem tucked away in the lush landscapes of Hudson Valley. Nestled in the heart of the Hudson Valley, The Dutchess presents a unique, almost clandestine retreat for those in the know. This secret hotel, deliberately shrouded in mystery with no overt marketing or social media presence, spans over 236 acres of lush terrain. It's not just the landscape that captivates; the property boasts historic buildings with luxurious appointments, including a spa, a yoga studio, and a restaurant nourished by an on-site organic and biodynamic farm. Conceived by Rameet Chawla, The Dutchess is designed to offer an unparalleled guest experience, where the lack of information and absence of expectations cultivate a sense of discovery and wonder. Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the moment, embracing the serenity and exclusivity of this hidden gem.

At The Dutchess, the journey begins at an unmarked entrance, setting the stage for an adventure defined by curiosity and surprise. This approach underscores Chawla's philosophy that the value of an experience is heightened by its mystery and the effort made to uncover it. The kitchen, led by Hudson Valley native Chef Mark Margiotta, complements the experience with "mostly vegan" meals that are as thoughtful and deliberate as the setting itself. The Dutchess isn't just a venue; it's an invitation to an experience that defies conventional expectations, offering a backdrop of quiet luxury and natural beauty ideal for those seeking an intimate and unique wedding experience.

Getting Ready with Friends and Family

Real Moments Amongst Friends

The day kicked off with Ivy in the charming farmhouse, and Ben in the red barn. The morning was buzzing with the easy excitement of friends and family. For me, wedding mornings aren’t about staging perfect shots; they are about capturing the genuine laughter, the shared looks, and the real, unguarded moments as everyone gets ready. It set the tone for the day: relaxed, genuine, and able to let the day flow.

First Look at The Dutchess

Ben and Ivy’s Private Moment

In a quiet spot, surrounded by nature, Ben and Ivy had their first look. There were no elaborate setups—just the two of them, sharing a moment that was beautifully real. I stayed back, letting the light and their connection do the talking, capturing images that felt as true to them as the love they share. I had Tina from East of Eden along side me, making magic with her cinema skills. It’s always such a nice day when I know I have a pro with the same intentions along side for the day. The creativity has more space to grow.
